Same machine, flat. Coins wait in a row in the escalator window where you can see them. The detector under the first position feels a coin land and pulls the handle lock clear. Every pull steps the whole row up one place; the coin at the top leaves for the routing point, where the till, the splitter and the cash box sort it out (§3.2). The pawl at the entry lets a coin in and not out. Nothing here counts or weighs; it's all geometry.
